A Personal Reminder: I Know Better—And I Still Got Dehydrated

Not long ago, I had a very real reminder that hydration isn't something to take for granted.

I was flying to Kansas City after working the night before and staying up most of the night to pack. I was exhausted and had every intention of sleeping on the flight. I almost always travel with my water bottle, but that morning I thought, I'm going to sleep anyway. I don't need it.

I knew better. I know that flying can contribute to dehydration. But in my exhaustion, I made the choice to leave the water bottle behind.

Somewhere during the flight, while I was sleeping and trying to wake up, the woman sitting next to me realized that something wasn't right. Before I knew it, I had become an in-flight medical emergency, and once we landed, I was rushed off the plane.

Thankfully, I was ultimately determined to be severely dehydrated and exhausted, rather than experiencing something more serious.

It was a humbling reminder: even when we know what we should do, life can get busy, we're tired, and sometimes we make choices that don't serve us.

My takeaway? Don't wait until your body is waving a giant red flag to give it what it needs.

Hydration isn't just about drinking water when you're thirsty. It's about consistently taking care of your body—especially when you're traveling, active, tired, or spending time in the heat. Don't stress about drinking a gallon today...

🚰 Drink one extra glass.
💦 Refill your bottle one more time.
🍋 Add fruit if it helps.

Hydration boosts your energy, focus, mood, and movement.

One sip becomes one habit.

Just Half It.

And yes…my water bottle has been traveling with me ever since. 💧
